City Council Appointed Boards
Planning and Zoning Board
The Planning and Zoning Board is comprised of five board members and an alternate, whom serve three year terms. There is also a non-voting School Board Appointed Member.
The Planning and Zoning Board meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. unless there are no items for discussion.
The Planning and Zoning Board's duties and responsibilities include:
- To act in an advisory capacity to the City Council on questions relating to planning and zoning, to conduct investigations on matters concerning planning proposals or zoning changes, and to report its findings and recommendations on such proposals to the City Council.
- To recommend to the City Council such amendments as the board may deem proper, expedient or necessary to clarify or to carry into effect the purposes thereof.
- To hear applicants and submit recommendations to the City Council or zoning board of appeals with respect to the following:
- Proposed change of the permitted use of any specifically designated property.
- Applications for conditional land use.
- Proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance.
- Proposed subdivision plats.
- Proposed site plans and other planning matters.
- Applications for special exceptions.

Tree Preservation Board
The Tree Preservation Board is an advisory board that is comprised of five board members and two alternates whom serve three year terms.
The Tree Preservation Boards meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers as needed.
The Tree Preservation Board's duties and responsibilities include:
- Plan and host Indian Harbour Beach's annual Arbor Day Ceremony
- Promote best practices in tree selection, planting, care and trimming.
- Promote the identification, preservation, and protection of champion trees.
- Develop tree related programs, incentives, partnerships, and rewards promoting positive Tree City USA citizenship.
- Consult with City Staff, upon request, regarding the selection, care and maintenance of trees on City property.
- Develop and present annually a written community tree management program and supporting work plan with which, upon acceptance by the City Council, shall constitute the official Comprehensive Tree Plan for the City of Indian Harbour Beach.
- Make recommendations to the City Council upon any matter coming within the scope of its work, as deemed necessary.
